Sony has announced that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will launch globally for PS5 on 20th October, 2023. After a prolonged period in which the exact date was a mystery, it’s great to finally know when the game is due. Tombstone, another infamous villain, has traded in his leather jacket for a Coney Island carnie’s uniform (and yes, the rides are adorably fun).
Marvel’s Spider-man 2 Trophy Roadmap
Without warning, in seemingly undemanding scenes and without any preceding slowdown, the game simply gives up, citing only nonsensical display driver issues. So far it’s happened about once every 30 minutes, seeming to be more frequent during story missions. Peter reunites with Harry and Mary Jane and attempts to return the suit to Harry, but it refuses to leave him; the three figure they need Connors’ help. While investigating Kraven, Peter discovers that Kraven is dying of cancer and is looking for someone who can give him a “warrior’s death” in combat. Peter manages to retrieve the serum from Kraven, who discovers the exosuit’s weakness to loud noises. After Peter and Harry synthesize an antidote for Connors, Peter locates him with Miles’ help and eventually defeats and cures him.
And while we know Peter will be able to wield Symbiote powers at some stage, there’s no telling if Venom himself will eventually join forces with the spidey duo, perhaps uniting against the common threat of Kraven The Hunter. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was first revealed during Sony’s 2021 PlayStation Showcase event. The initial trailer gave us a look at Peter Parker and Miles Morales in action together, with Venom joining the fight at the very end. During PlayStation’s September 2023 State of Play, Insomniac showcased a closer look at Marvel’s New York. Senior Creative Director Bryan Intihar noted that this version of New York is nearly twice the size of the original game, thanks to the addition of the Queens and Brooklyn boroughs.

This physical manifestation is also representative of mental health issues that have developed for each Spider-Man. NK88 hangs over the main characters like a spectre of grief, drenching them in black as if in a state of mourning. Find release dates and scores for every major upcoming and recent video game release for all platforms, updated several times per week. As in previous entries in the Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise, there are plenty of Side Missions in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 that you can complete to engage in unique storylines with various characters, and earn special rewards. Though hotfixes are flying thick and fast as I finish out this review, for me the patches have so far failed to tackle frequent crashes to desktop. I find it difficult to diagnose my experience—while others have seen wide-ranging performance issues, for me the game runs smoothly, until it suddenly doesn’t.
Ray-traced reflections quickly catch your eye in the skyscraper-filled city of Marvel’s New York as you swing along its many glass surfaces. On PS5 in 2023, Spider-Man 2 at least served as an impressive technical showcase for the hardware, and a blockbuster release in a relatively quiet release schedule. On PC in 2025, without those advantages and in a disappointingly shaky state, it’s much more difficult to recommend. The majority of the side activities wind up feeling both mechanically and narratively pointless. An electric bike race feels silly enough in a Spider-Man game, but when the stakes are just “I need someone to try out my electric bike”, it’s hard not to think Miles and Peter have more pressing stuff to be getting on with. Far too much of what you’re doing feels like padding from the early days of open world games—there’s more inspiration here from Crackdown than there is from GTA V.
Primarily a Peter Parker story, Spider-Man 2 explores his relationship with MJ and the reintroduction of childhood best friend Harry Osborne into his life. It’s always compelling to watch him contend with which pieces of the past to leave behind and what future self he wishes to be. No matter how hectic a scenario gets, though, he always has a quippy one-liner ready to be expertly delivered by actor Yuri Lowenthal. One area that Insomniac has made improvements in is that Spider-Man 2 offers significantly more in the way of enemy variety, so you’ll no longer be battering the same five balaclava bullies with baseball bats. New factions and units, such as flamethrower-wielding cultists that keep you at a distance, flying drones, and hunters who deploy laser grids above your head to limit aerial attacks keep you on your sticky toes. Certain enemies are weak to different types of abilities, such as electric or symbiote attacks, which also adds an enjoyable extra wrinkle to fights.
